Sharon– Rose Moskowitz, 98, of Geer Village in Canaan, CT passed away on November 9, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late Bernard Moskowitz.
Rose was born August 2, 1926 in New York city, the daughter of the late David and Regina (Shanker) Gunn. Rose graduated from high school in the Bronx. Her late husband served in the U.S. Army during WWII and survived D-Day on the beaches of France. Rose Moskowitz was a kind and sweet woman who deeply loved her family.
She is survived by a son, Larry Moskowitz (Nancy Moskowitz) of Sharon, a daughter, Arlene Greenspan (Harold Greenspan) of Boston, five grandchildren: Jesse, Melissa, Evan, Keith and Elena and two great grandchildren: Hazel and Simon. She was predeceased by her five siblings.
A private memorial service for the family will be held in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sharon Housing Trust, P.O. Box 1168, Sharon, CT. 06069 or on the website SHTCT.org. in memory of Rose Moskowitz. The Kenny Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
The Sharon Housing Trust was awarded a $50,000 matching grant to help it begin needed repairs at 91, 93 and 95 North Main Street in Sharon, where the Trust owns six affordable housing units across three neighboring buildings. The matching aspect of the grant will help promote community response to the Trust’s ongoing appeals for funding.
A local Sharon-based foundation is the generous benefactor. The Low Road Foundation matched each donation made to the Trust by other persons. The funds will be used to pay for initial, priority repairs to all three buildings. The Trust has raised enough money to match all of the offered grant, and benefited from a total of over $100,000 in donations in the aggregate. The repairs to the three buildings are needed as a prelude to the Trust’s application to the Connecticut Department of Housing for additional funds to upgrade the structures and maintain them as workforce housing.
The Trust is conducting ongoing appeals for community support to help keep the six apartments at 91, 93 and 95 North Main Street affordable, sustainable and in good repair, and to prepare for work at the Community Center.
Please consider supporting the Trust in its mission to provide housing solutions for Sharon’s workforce, for young people eager to gain a toehold in Sharon, and for downsizing families seeking to find affordable accommodations in our vibrant community!
